Cataract Surgery Consultation

This is your consultation. Choose wisely. Dr. Brierly founded Copper Eye Surgery on the premise that cataract surgery should be a transparent, collaborative process between surgeon and patient. The consultation or second opinion price at Copper Eye Surgery is very affordable, and every patient completes their consultation knowing how much they will pay for their cataract surgery. All of your questions will be answered clearly and in a straightforward manner.

We don’t accept payment from Medicare or insurance companies because we refuse to allow them to dictate what care patients can receive, and we feel that patients deserve to know the actual cost before making health care decisions. You won’t receive a surprise bill from Copper Eye Surgery a month after your visit. Copper Eye Surgery accepts ACH, credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay for the single, one-time consultation payment.

Key benefits of choosing Copper Eye Surgery for your cataract procedure:

  • It’s an exclusively cash-pay practice where patients enjoy transparent pricing (no guessing how much your out of pocket expenses will be)

  • There is no need for multiple co-pays

  • The number of appointments necessary are minimized. Patients don’t have to return to Copper Eye Surgery for multiple testing, as testing is performed on the same day for most patients

  • Beginning with the consultation, patients enjoy ample time directly with their provider, Dr. Brierly. There are no intermediaries slowing down the process, and patients get high quality information from their consultation onward

  • An honest recommendation not influenced by a third party insurance companies or private equity

Check-in is truly fast, simple, and secure. Since Copper Eye Surgery doesn’t accept insurance payment, we can reject the onerous practice of collecting ever more invasive personal information. Much more sensitive information is required by other practices due to insurance requirements—that’s not an issue at Copper Eye Surgery.

Working with Board Certified Dr. Shaun Brierly

Your consultation is comprised of an in-depth, unhurried conversation with Dr. Brierly, the surgeon who will be performing your cataract surgery. You’ll discuss your surgical options, goals, and dreams of life without cataracts. The best, most informed surgical decisions arise from patients having the opportunity to spend time with their surgeon (and not intermediaries) exploring benefits, potential risks, and what to expect during and after cataract surgery. That’s why every consultation includes up to 30 minutes with Sonoma Magazine’s 2019 “Top Doctor in Ophthalmology,” Dr. Brierly.

Dr. Brierly is a board certified cataract specialist who has performed many thousands of cataract surgeries during his 20 year career. He brings to his work years of specialized training, as well as experience as Chief of Ophthalmology at Santa Rosa Kaiser Permanente Medical Center and as the ophthalmologist responsible for eye surgical care of our coalition forces across five Middle Eastern countries during his time in Iraq with the US Army Reserve Medical Corps. He is a leading choice for patients needing cataract surgery in Arizona and has piqued the interest of many people suffering from cataracts around the country.

Consultation

The consultation gives you time with your surgeon to answer any questions and develop a plan, if cataract surgery is recommended. This fee also covers a dilated cataract evaluation, extensive biometry testing, detailed anterior and posterior cornea analysis, astigmatism analysis, and ocular coherence tomography (OCT) imaging of the retina. Your consultation fee includes digital copies of these tests along with the evaluation results and recommended treatment plan.

What To Expect During Your Cataract Surgery Consultation

Cataract consultations include a complete dilated eye exam and the advanced eye measurements necessary for a thorough cataract evaluation. When doctors accept insurance, individual components of the evaluation are often billed separately and typically require additional copays and deductibles. Copper Eye Surgery bypasses this messy budgeting by charging a simple flat fee that covers extensive testing and the consultation.

Evaluation for astigmatism correction and multiple focus correction during cataract surgery also takes place during your consultation. Biometry is typically performed with the cutting-edge Zeiss IOL Master 700, though patients with very dense cataracts may require ultrasound scanning with the Sonomed VuPad. Dr. Brierly will also evaluate the retina and anterior chamber with Ocular Coherence Tomography using the state of the art Zeiss Cirrus 6000. Finally, a detailed anterior and posterior cornea analysis is performed using the Ziemer Galilei Wavefront Topographer to complete the technical data collection.
