About Copper Eye Surgery

Veteran owned.

They’re your eyes. Choose wisely. Copper Eye Surgery, Corp. was founded by board certified Dr. Shaun Brierly to offer patients the best in cataract surgery with personalized care using the latest high end equipment. You can expect premium service and extended one-on-one time with your doctor—not an intermediary—at the practice where patient needs come before insurance demands. Copper Eye Surgery is different from other practices because Dr. Brierly singularly performs cataract surgery and the private pay model allows patients a broad range of options, including “dropless” cataract surgery.

Dr. Brierly specializes in complex cataract surgery and enjoys working with patients with aphasia, dementia, or cognitive disorders who are used to experiencing particular difficulty finding compassionate care. Reading impairment, struggle with nighttime glare, and vision that hinders driving often prompt people to pursue cataract surgery.  You want the best surgeon accompanying you on your journey to regain the vision necessary to resume your normal activities.

The Destination is Part of the Experience

Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Brierly spent 40 years in Northern California before relocating to the Scottsdale and Phoenix area, where night hiking is a pastime and perpetual sunshine allows for dirt bike trail riding with his daughter and sons year-round. He is thankful to live in a region rich in freedom and opportunity. Dr. Brierly and his family love the desert’s beauty, culture, and incredible natural wonders.

Arizona is a popular destination for snowbirds, and Copper Eye Surgery welcomes winter travelers as well as year-round medical tourists who want a premium cataract surgery experience. Dr. Brierly and his team can work with out-of-state and international patients who present complicated cases and want the best in care with transparent pricing. Traveling patients can also take advantage of countless nearby activities and experiences, from hiking Camelback Mountain to catching Cactus League games. With an office centered among dozens of Paradise Valley, Phoenix and Scottsdale resorts and golf courses, and mere blocks from the galleries, restaurants and shopping in Old Scottsdale, family and friends won’t mind joining you for your consult with Dr. Brierly.

A Commitment to Transparency and Convenience: The Beginning of Private Pay and Opting Out of Insurance

Dr. Brierly left the managed care environment in California to start his own practice in Arizona—Copper Eye Surgery, Corp.—and give patients the premium cataract surgery experience they didn’t know they craved. To achieve this level of care, Dr. Brierly has opted completely out of all insurance contracts, including Medicare, making Copper Eye Surgery a strictly “cash pay” practice featuring transparent pricing. Cataract care options can be limited when third-party insurance roadblocks are in place. Remove these barriers with private pay, and patients can take advantage of an unrushed, custom surgical experience. Our direct pay model allows Copper Eye Surgery to spend the time required to provide an individually crafted cataract surgery plan.

  • Private Pay – No Insurance Accepted

  • Extensive Evaluation

  • Time With Your Surgeon

  • Transparent pricing for cataract consultation and surgery

Transparency and convenience are at the core of our price structure. Insurance is notoriously difficult to navigate, and you often don’t know much you’ll pay until the bills arrive – months later. Copper Eye Surgery, Corp. will always be upfront about cost, whether you opt for premium astigmatism correcting lenses, expanded range of focus lens implants, or decide to incorporate ORA or laser assisted cataract surgery. When comparing total out of pocket costs between insurance plans and Copper Eye Surgery’s private pay model, some patients may end up paying the same or even less at Dr. Brierly’s practice.
